When the stars aligned and the band Bearhunter fell into the world’s lap people were confused. Contrary to popular belief their records were not recordings of bears explaining how to hunt. It was a common misconception that led a number of North American bears to lengthen their hibernations. They did this to avoid being asked advice in the wild. The world was faced with an increased risk of forest fires, a much lower rate of stolen picnic baskets, and a fall in the number of good jokes hammered home with a ‘waka waka.’
This wasn’t good. The world became a place in which the average forest was nothing more than people successfully picnicking in piles of ash and not knowing when to laugh. As laughter faded so went love, dancing and intimacy. The irony was Bearhunter records became handier than ever. When the world had pushed the mute button it was time for music. Music is sound after all.
Sounds are vibrations. They travel in longitudinal waves and displace the air around them like a pebble thrown in water. They’re disruptions. Earthquakes and explosions also travel in longitudinal waves. This makes sense, as I promise this album will shake the ground and blow up the silence of the world. Feel it run through you and watch your body move with it. Let yourself become part of the disarray it creates.
This is what lies in the vibrations hidden on this record. It is not simply an album. It is a golden ticket for the listener to open their valve and crawl from their oubliette into the frozen world...and shatter it with rock.
The first tool humans used was the rock. It wasn’t paper or scissors. It was rock. Embracing it is encoded in our DNA. Could there be anything more natural than listening to Bearhunterian music? No, not one single thing.
This record is made for those ready to escape the mundane daily revolution of the earth around the sun. Turn the volume up and get lost in the lush and lovely labyrinth that Bearhunter has crafted. This is not for those afraid of getting swept up in the unknown, but instead for those that cannot help from enjoying the free-for-all jumble of existence.
It’s time to laugh, love, and dance. Be part of one more disruption. Feel the ripples and ride them into the Nothing Further Beyond.
